S. Maharba - S. Maharba

now for something really underground. S. Maharba is a sample-splicer and beatsmith from Ipswich, UK, and he can contend with the best of 'em. Blending gritty, dirty beats with soulful vocal cuts and downtempo, trip-hop mood vamps against a backdrop of vinyl crackling, S. Maharba's self-titled EP is truly an exquisite record not to be missed. This is only around 20 minutes long, and there are 10 songs, so he keeps it fresh and this is over before you know it. I especially like the beautiful closer When I Go To Sleep, which is posted below on youtube, but really the whole thing is just excellent. Hype hype hype. Get this now.

Ego/Mirror - Burial + Four Tet + Thom Yorke

what's going on with Radiohead? They released their new album just a month ago and yet they've been suspiciously tight-lipped about it. More than the meets the eye there? Who knows, but in the mean time Thom Yorke has been working on a couple of tracks with laptop electronica kings Burial and Four Tet, and they are good. So here they are, Ego and Mirror

23 - Blonde Redhead

I got this album a few days ago and can't get this song out of my head. It's a beautiful dreampop/shoegaze track, the textures and layers are hazy but with gorgeous female vocals that cut through the fog. This reminds me a lot of the band downy, who I'll probably be posting some stuff by soonish - it's shoegazey but with a definite sense of melancholy. Check it out

Gershwin - Actress

All aboard the hype train. Choo choo. Last year London DJ/producer Actress came out with an LP called Splazsh, and lo, it was great. Minimal, cerebral post-dubstep if such a thing even exists. Dance music you can't really dance to, Actress' music has an otherworldly quality that is swirling, hypnotic and easy to get lost in. Crisp, measured beats underpin dreamy tracks that seem to slowly spin round and round, unravelling as they go. This track, called "Gershwin", is from his first single since Splazsh, and it is absolutely killer. Close your eyes and let it wash over you

Today Is Our Life - Memory Tapes

People keep saying chillwave is over. "Chillwave is over!", that's what they sound like. It was pronounced all but dead by pitchfork when they slapped a 3.8 rating on MillionYoung's new album, proclaiming dramatically that there may be no future in the genre. Step in Dayve Hawk, a man named after a bird who in 2009 released 'Seek Magic' under the moniker Memory Tapes - probably my favourite chillwave album and also one of my favourites of 2009. If there's anyone who can save chillwave's poor little chillaxing soul then it's him, and judging from his excellent new song "Today Is Our Life", Memory Tapes' upcoming album may well be just as good as the first. This one's got sick synth hooks all over the place, and much like the best stuff on Seek Magic the song culminates in a euphoric climax. Listen to it and chill

This is a music blog, where I will be posting about all the cool music I'm into, hypin' up new and old mofos so as to hopefully get some people into bands that they'll love. I've found out about tons of ace stuff through blogs and maybe I can now give back 2 da community haha okay that's lame sounding but there's meaning there somewhere. Anyway, I'll be posting a mix of indie/electronia/folk/experimental etc etc stuff, your general hipster fare tbh but it'll all be stuff that I think is really good and deserves listeners. Now let's wheelspin the fuck outta here
